W High School vs St. John’s College High School for academics?

MCPS is stronger in math and science. MCPS has Many more options with APs , can take earlier and given SJC has religion every year - more slots to take APs

While a bit dependent on teacher - found English & history AP / honors stronger at SJC past freshman year. More books read, more writing. AP history very rigorous with high AP scores

SJC has midterm & final exams worth large % of grade. IMHO - better prep for my kid for college. (Know not every kid needs that). No leniency on late or missed homework. Stricter environment overall. Late for class - detention.

If your kid is science / math - it’s a more clear choice - otherwise more a preference.

I think this is a fair assessment. The only thing I would add is that SJC also has a lot of gatekeeping for honors and AP classes, so, if your kid is in those classes, it is a strong academic cohort. I think it is smart for any parent thinking about a switch from public to private to take the course catalogs of the various schools and lay out a 4 year plan so you and your kid can get an idea of what classes you will actually be taking. As PP said, SJC, has a religion requirement every year, so, that is one less elective they get to choose. My kids were strong in math and science, and they got a great education at SJC. One is majoring in computer science and the other is majoring in neuroscience and biology.

You are kidding right??

One is an indoctrination echo center ST John’s with MAGA spewing conspiracy theories and ignorance.

The other has better math and science curriculum and sends kids to better colleges

There is no comparison here.

One teaches your kid to think the other is just like I said indoctrination. And yes W schools are a way better education overall.

If you want a Catholic education go for it pay for it til the next few years because there won’t be an economy or jobs after that. That will ge a fabulous use of your funds.
