They use both. The IB program is humanities and STEM, not just humanities.
No, RMIB uses MAP-R, and Blair uses MAP-M. Plus other cretinous such as languages and essay etc. I do not know Poolesville. We are the current 8th grade student’s parents and went through the entire magnet program application process.
Link?
They definitely use both. Attend the open houses and that’s what they’ll tell you.
No, I attended the open house. That’s not what I was told. And if you are a current 8th grader’s parent and attended the open house, you would know. I can’t speak for previous years, but this year, RMIB only uses MAP-R. They also have language requirements and require an essay.
Very interesting. I wonder why that's the case. They did use both R and M in previous years. |

There’s no reason why they would drop the MAP M scores. |
Difference is Whitman is a whole school cohort where RM uses special programs to recruit and shelter serious students. Those efforts are unnecessary at Whitman |
Yes. Back in the day kids who applied to magnet programs had to sit for the test on a Saturday..the latest one was full-length Cogat, and before that there was a test that included English, math and an essay, probably emulating SAT |
And the difference is that Whitman doesn't have an country wide IB magnet program, or any IB level classes. If you don't care about IB, then not sure why you are on this thread. |
| ^ a county wide.. |
Another difference at Whitman is the large percentage of kids whose parents pay for supplemental tutoring and other instruction (nerd camps etc.) on the side. High achieving parents with money make for a very academically competitive environment at the school—sometimes to a fault. |
