I think the obnoxious statement was that it’s a school for students who are “borderline college material.”

The average ACT score at Longwood is 21; the college readiness benchmarks for different subjects range from 22-26, so almost by definition many of these kids are borderline college material. I went to undergrad at WVU (23 average ACT) and many of the kids there weren’t college material either.

IMy daughter graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I believe the teaching program there thoroughly prepared her to take on a teaching position and begin working on her Master's degree.

My kiddo was accepted into JMU, VCU, ECU, and UNCW but chose to go to Longwood.

It’s not UVA nor does it pretend to be. It’s for a student who wants a supportive environment with a lot of opportunities to get to know professors. College is about that transition to adulthood. Some kids need more support than others to make that transition. Longwood is perfect for that kid.

What is he studying? What's his roommate like? Is he a quiet kid or social?

studying public history- historical preservation/archivist
he is quiet - in band which has been fun since the basketball team is D1 and made a run for NCAA tournament the last few years.

I graduated from Longwood many, many years ago. It was Longwood College back then. I went because they had an excellent social work program back then.

NP, but It’s a phallic joke and the purpose to add levity.

Longwood is a well regarded public university outside of the hyper-competitive NoVA bubble. I know Longwood grads who have gone on to have fulfilling careers and happy, normal, well-adjusted lives. They aren’t backstabbing, social climbing, win-at-all-costs types. Thank God.

Would it be good for someone who wants to study physical therapy (within nursing)?
