It made it less convenient because anytime Marine One is in the air, they close DC airspace, which either puts flights arriving into DCA in a holding pattern, or they get diverted to nearby airports. In early February, we were on a Friday afternoon flight at DCA about to take off—and then sat on the runway for another 15+ minutes. The pilot apologized for the delay saying we were delayed “due to VIP movement.” I could see the four helicopters flying along the Potomac. So I agree, DCA is now less convenient because of the greater chance at being delayed or diverted when Marine One is nearby |
