Is it normal for only 5 freshman boys to make the JV team at a very large public hs?

Should add that more than 100 boys tried out for the the team, not counting returning players. So it was still hyper competitive.

Huh?

Well, if only 5 freshman make any team, than they must take a bunch of sophomores/juniors who didn't make the teams previously as freshmen. Mathematically.

Your logic is way off. Freshman do not only have to be on the JV team. They can also be on varsity. The next year it could be a team of all freshmen for all you know there is no limit to five. I don’t know why you’re being so stringent about that number.

Most definitely true.

about that number.

Or both! Mine started JV and joined varsity for playoffs in freshman year.

this is why our large FCPS HS doesn't do soccer green days. they have 150+ boys try out for soccer. Any green day would be so crowded it would be pointless.

Yes. MCPS.

This is where many kids stop playing. Remember pay to play keeps a lot of kids in sports.

We really didn’t rather but that was due to all the snow. They kept getting canceled.

At our school only 2-3 freshman made the JV team when my son was a freshman. And one of the 2-3 actually shouldn’t have even been alllpwed to play HS because he was on one of those ultra competitive travel teams that usually forbids it—he had to get some special waiver. There were like 70 kids at the tryout. It’s brutal out there for boys soccer.

Depends on the size of the school. My DS's school (3A in size) graduates 13 seniors from a combined V/JV roster of 35 on this year's team. Not only will freshman (current 8th graders) make JV next year but at least two will play V in the fall.

Now, at the neighboring 5A school, many of my DS's former club teammates will be stuck on JV until at least 11th grade.

I use to coach HS Varsity soccer and I could care less if you were a Freshman or Senior. I took the best 25 or so players I saw during tryouts. The school/county didn't give me quotas regarding grade year. Parents don't like seeing a senior get cut or sit on the bench while a freshman plays, but if you are good enough you are good enough.

What HS? What's the big deal.

I mean, this is about how many freshman make it on JV, but OK.
