I was already told by the AART that it was not an error. That they only included Fall I-ready scores for first grade. My child didn't have one so it wasn't included, and the spring one was deliberately not included. They said "only two iReady scores are displayed on the AAP page 3 of the summary sheet for any 2nd grade student, not just [child's name]: the iReady Lexile level from the fall of first grade and the mathematics percentile from the fall of second grade." |
The school AART teacher said parents only allowed to submit private testing. If I remembered correctly I was told school AART teacher sent school testing score when she generated package. I removed iready score copy as requested, but did mentioned the percentile in parent referral just to be safe. |
Don’t worry about the appeal until you have to. But if you want to work on something then do your cover letter. Figure out what level iv has that your child needs and explain that to the committee. You have to prove their needs can not be met in the regular classroom. |
The original question was whether the central office looked up extra information when they can’t find specific data in the packet. In your case they did not - the aart included the iready information in the packet, which is what they do for everyone. |
Has anyone heard of this situation where they only include *some* iready scores? Seems wrong that they tell you that you can't but then they don't include all... |
In my experience they include the second grade fall iReady scores for math and reading, which makes sense since those are the most recent scores when the packets are submitted. OP indicated that her school includes the first grade fall reading iReady and the second grade fall math iReady, which seems extremely odd to me. |
I'm the OP and can clarify that the first grade fall iReady scores were included because there was no reading iReady in fall of second grade as it was dropped in favor of the VALLSS. iReady for math in fall of second grade was included. It sounded from the AART's email that this was the case for all second graders (i.e., what scores were included). If anyone here requested their packet and saw that the AART included iReady scores from spring of first grade, I'd love to hear about that. |
Ha, easier said than done. I've already concluded I will need to appeal, just based on certain omissions. I am happy to hear suggestions about what I can say along these lines that is more than "my child more advanced/creative than the regular classroom can accommodate". I have never been in a LIV classroom so I only know what I hear about here. |
Ah, that makes sense. Still odd that they chose to include the first grade fall reading iready instead of the first grade spring reading iReady, which would have been more recent. It's also unfortunate that the school chose not to do the second grade fall reading iReady, knowing that this would be part of the AAP packets! I'm sorry - that is frustrating all around. |
Thanks. I totally agree and it's frustrating that they just include the most recent score they had. Percentiles are percentiles so it's not like you are comparing apples and oranges if some kids have a spring iReady score reported and others have a fall one. Just to clarify, they've stopped administering the reading iReady because they have the VALLSS now. I think they say that it's redundant but I think it's just part of the push to reduce the weight of tests that they believe puts some kids at an unfair advantage. Personally I found it informative and am a bit miffed that they aren't using it anymore (and instead we have all these Benchmark assessments that are difficult to interpret/less objective). |
Is this your first child? You seem kind of obsessed with this. I also have a second grader. She was in pool, got high iready and VALLS scores. I am also awaiting results like every other second grade parent. It doesn’t seem normal to request this packet and be freaking out about a low HOPE score. |
You seem like you have nothing better to do than act superior. Congratulations on handling this more calmly than me. |
I’m not sure I’m acting superior. This is my third child. I have 2 kids already in AAP. My current 2nd grader is very smart, scored 99th in both tests, should be in. Even if she isn’t in, I don’t think it is that big of a deal. |
Good for you. I happen to think it's a bigger deal. So what? And it's not just the HOPE scores that concern me about the odds of being deemed eligible but other things I mentioned already. |
If your kid is smart enough to be in AAP, he will get in. You don’t need to be this worried and be snippy at people on the internet. |
