SAT - Averages for Arlington’s Asian students below state and national averages

17:46 - great post but wouldn't that be the same for all (minority) groups? yet Arlington hispanics and blacks outscored VA and US counterparts....

hmmm....I actually rarely see any in North Arlington. Does this have somethign to do with it? If you check the demographics in Arlington Elem schools they are very low in #s. ArlingtonScienceFocus Elem. school has the most by far at 19%. My own Fairfax Co. HS was about 40% Asian.

Asians are over 15% of the ES students at ASF, Traditional, Henry, Hoffman-Boston, Oakridge and Randolph. But I think the PP was on to something. If you take a top Arlington ES like Nottingham, the percentage of Asian students is below 5%. Go out to a top Fairfax school and it could easily be 15-20% or more.

True, there are not many Asians in N. Arlington. It's pretty white.

"Top" in the sense of high-performing, excellent Great Schools rating, school in pyramid that that realtors like to tout.

Not in the sense of very best, all-the-other-schools-suck-by-comparison.

OP - I don't know where in Asia you are from, or what your circumstances are, but I've never heard of a problem with Arlington and underachieving Asians. I know among the Mongolians, Arlington has a nice reputation for providing the services they need. I doubt their kids are getting the highest SAT scores (the parents aren't well educated in any language, let alone English), but the town is probably doing well by them.
