Which schools?

Pyle, Hoover, and SSIMS, to name a few.

Not true. My DC is at Pyle and not everyone is in HIGH.

It appears to be the only option for next year's 6th graders:

Thanks. Slide number 25 shows there is Global humanities and world studies. However, unlike math placement, they don’t mention the criteria for global vs world studies.

No, it doesn’t. It says, “ALL 6th grader students are enrolled in Historical Inquiry into Global Humanities/World Studies” — meaning they are the same class.

Or it means all 6th graders are enrolled in either Global Humanities or World studies? I reached out to the middle school (Pyle) and they informed me that they will get information from the central office for the placement in Global Humanities. So no, they are not all enrolled in Global.

As someone who went to the parent night where those slides were presented, I can confirm that all students will be in the same class. Someone asked the question, and the department had answered it. Teachers are supposed to.” Differentiate” for the kids who qualified for the enriched program. You can email the head of the department to confirm. His name is on the slide.

Perhaps they will have certain Global classes with kids who qualified for enrichment and the rest will be in Global without enrichment?

Doesn’t sound like it. They had 2 levels before. Now they have just 1.

Would be hard to differentiate in class vs having a separate class for enrichment.

Hard for teachers, but not hard for administrators. And administrators make those decisions. It all comes down to what’s easiest for the schedule.

HIGH and World Studies are not the same course. Some MS may not offer both, but if they do, you can contact your MS after assignments are complete to ask about your own DC's placement. Right now assignments are _not_ complete: MSMC still has lottery round 2 to go, for example, and there are other placements still yet to happen. Once the classes are largely determined and the MS counselors actually have rosters, then is the time to make contact (once you know where your DC is actually going). I checked with DCCAPS directly to make sure we didn't miss anything about this, and am planning to email DC's counselor before the end of the school year, but not until at least April or May.

So your DC wasn’t in the lottery pool and hence not identified for enrichment?

Correct. But it is still OK to contact the school and see whether they can take HIGH. (It even says so in the "you did not make the lottery" letter.)

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I had one kid who was placed in global humanities that got accepted to Eastern and one kid who didn't make the lottery who was also placed in global humanities - I suspect based on MAP-R?
