Landon Head of School Leaving

If people want their sons to go to a school like St. Albans, they should go to St. Albans instead of trying to make Landon like St. Albans. Landon occupies a unique and necessary niche - it is not religiously affiliated, it is single sex, and it balances academics with athletics - which STA used to do too but now the kids do hours and hours of homework every night and the school basically can’t win a game in any sport. Not every school is for every child - they are all different and they don’t need to try to be the same.

What ? My son goes to STA and has never lost to a county mountie from landon. There are more sports than lax and football.
never? What about a county mountie at Bullis?

No one is going back to college admissions patterns of the 1950s, when those schools were not admitting by merit but took white men from specific schools in specific quantities on what was essentially a gentleman's agreement.

Give me a break. 🙄

Was not happy with forced unconstitutional vaccine mandates at the school. I was stunned that any educator could not head to Cornell’s website and read US Code. I alerted Landon about this and remained unheard. Faculty forced as prerequsite to come to work.
I am sure he is aware of this now…but this reality would make anyone want to quit especially when you have parents who believe their child were injured by these vaccines. They had this information and stupidly knew better.
Landon is a wonderful school but they need a better legal team to advise them and not listen to Israeli backed media for their medical or legal advice.

Between your anti-Semitism and general idiocy and the OP's desire to return to 1950s college admissions process, I am even less impressed by Landon than I was before.

The timing is interesting based on the recent legal settlement; My first thought is that this is related. The delayed departure give me pause.

Jim will have severed as the headmaster for 11 years. The average tenure of a school headmaster nationwide is 10 years... Its a grueling job from the various stakeholders you need to appeal and manage.

I suspect Jim will semi retire and run some type of consulting gig / advisory service on the side.

Headmasters come and go.

All the best to him

I just saw the suit was settled and wondered the same thing. This kid had a lot of issues before Landon and Landon wasn't a good fit. This is a kid who needed serious mental health treatment and probably hospitalization. That's something the parents had to do not the school.

In all the theorizing, why has no one pointed out that his youngest just graduated, which is a fairly common time for Heads to move on. He's an exceptional HOS and Landon is better after his tenure. The last few years have been brutal for Heads (see insane comment about vaccines above as an example), so this seems like a very unsurprising decision. I think they will attract some great folks as candidates, and I imagine the Board goes with a sitting HOS.

I wasn't aware his son recently graduated, kinda makes sense.

The settlement thinks otherwise. It is related

it took a few days and a couple of pages of well earned praise, but I knew the ugliness would find its way out of its hole and into this thread. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, he learned that parents will always blame others for their kid's problems. I can see him being just done with the nonsense.

I don't have a kid at Landon, but if it was related, wouldn't he be leaving at the end of this school year, not NEXT school year?

Financially its not worth them fighting it out in court. This kid had serious mental health issues, was bullied at their last school. Landon is guilty if they let the child be bullied but once the parents knew that they should have pulled him and gotten him mental health treatment. There were signs for days leading up to the suicide and this child needed to be hospitalized.

Landon is at fault if the child or parents reported the bullying and they did nothing BUT, the parents ignored the mental health issues.

His parents were standing up for other kids. There is no world where it is right what happened to him. PP if you are an adult and saying this sort of thing you have serious issues.
