New Zealand, but you will need to plan well because not every place would have much for kids. Join the New Zealand Travel Tips (NZTT) facebook page. It is a wealth of information and a really well-run page. |
Thanksgiving is a really good time for New Zealand. I’d go to Queenstown and surrounds, maybe Milford or Doubtful Sound and Te Anau glowworm cave, Mt. Aoraki/Cook, Abel Tasman, up to Marlborough if you have time. |
Having been to both, Thailand! But certainly depends on what you would like to do, if you do Queenstown, there are a lot of fun activities with kids, Jet boating, luge, LOR. Did enjoy the NZ meat pies.
Thailand, temples, delicious food, beaches |
I’ve never heard anyone describe NZ as desolate. That’s really funny. |
Thailand with kids that age was really fun. Bangkok and the hawker stalls were really fun. The kids enjoyed the casual boats to get around the city.
They loved Chiang Mai and the various hikes, markets, and outdoor things to do. Waterfalls, etc. And the beaches, snorkeling, boating in Thailand was another hit. If you have kids who are active, and would do well on beaches, climbing, etc it's great. If you have kids who are flexible eating, even better. The fruit and other noodle dishes are pretty accessible. (If you have a kid with a severe peanut allergy, you might want to avoid.) |
NZ is one of those places you visit when elderly to see beautiful sights, if you are young and able to be mobile thailand is a no brainer especially with kids. |
New Zealand is stunning but expensive, with vast open spaces and a slower pace. It’s great for nature lovers and older travelers ticking it off their bucket list, but the long distances and quieter vibe can feel desolate or boring for kids. Thailand, on the other hand, is more budget-friendly and packed with activities like beaches, markets, temples, and animal sanctuaries. It’s lively, engaging, and perfect for families looking for variety and adventure. For kids, Thailand offers more excitement, while New Zealand suits those seeking peaceful, scenic getaways. |
