Americans Are Stockpiling to Get Ahead of Tariffs

I could see it for appliances, electronics or cars. Possibly coffee depending on how expensive your brand is since coffee is fairly small.
The vast majority of TP is made in U.S. it wont be affected by tariffs.

I don't see the downside, in fact I wish I had bought it sooner! I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a new car, too. Again, something we were going to get in the next year or so but with all this uncertainty, and the financial means to do so, why take the risk?

So a perfectly good stove will be sitting in a landfill and you see no problem with that…

It would be funny if people spent enough to juice the Q4 '24 GDP and then we printed a negative number in Q1 '25.

But the wood comes from Canada.

I remodeled my bathroom right after the election because I’m concerned that the tariffs and deportations will significantly increase the cost next year.

Lol, this thread is hilarious—pure TDS all around, even a month after the election: “I need to throw away my perfectly good stove and car because…Trump, I think?”

Maybe try getting out of your bubbles once in a while. “I have no idea how anyone could’ve voted for this!” Meanwhile, a majority of the country—a coalition spanning across income brackets, race, class, etc.—voted for this “POS.” 🤡

I know someone who hs buying a car for his kids (who still have 2 years before they can drive) bc they are worried about tariffs. So the car will need to be tagged and insured and maintained for two years of non- use.

Actually he did not win a majority in the popular vote or it was by the thinnest margin in history or something like that.

i’m so glad i am free of being chained to manic consumerism. The entire last year has been spent minimizing my life. I also have older teens and they are fully on board as well. We have slashed our total expenses, including housing to a net of about 65K in the last 12 months and have been able to invest so much into the market. It is amazing how wasteful we were.

I can’t imagine this sort of thing keeping me up at night.

I’ve been thinking the same for a while now. The groupthink is real. If people are moving spending earlier, there is a way to invest around this scenario.

And this will get Trump credited with a boom economy and customer confidence. Depressing.

Can’t wait for the deportations, too.

haha.. tell that to the people who voted for Trump because they thought Trump was going to better manage price increases. Oh wait, he already said he probably can't bring grocery prices down. Next comes things like clothing, TP, and parts for your appliance.

Not to mention, they got bamboozled cause Trump ain't gonna do nothing about bringing prices down. Rather, prices will go up, per many leading economists. .🤡

The only thing I have done is purchase a new iPhone for my son sooner than I would have previously because his birthday is coming up and I'd rather lock in the price now for a new iPhone 16.
