When does band start at your private school?

At ours instruments start in 4th grade

Our private, in a different metro, has never had "band". They do have a couple of chamber groups, a small orchestra, and a choral group.

The music and art programs are really important to me and a major difference from public school. I'd be annoyed if they were reduced.

Our local Aacps public has significantly more music than what you describe - and that’s for the general schools. The arts magnets have even more.
If art and music are really important sounds like you made the wrong decision.
