Be careful about doing this. Mine did advanced at another school and the older kids were nasty about my freshman getting the spot and bullied then the entire year. Better off doing it privately. |
Whitman cut their marching band program back to a pep band. They still have a drum line. Symphonic band is fine. I think the other MCPS schools listed on this thread probably have stronger programs. |
It really depends on the teacher at the time. Teachers also switch around so you are better off paying for private lessons and groups vs. choosing a school. |

That's a bit creepy you track it. |
Creepy? My kid is in two of them and I got the recent email announcement. |
| Magruder used to have the best marching band but Ike retired |
Yes, but you took the time to pull each school name and list it. |
NP, so basically your issue is that PP took 5 minutes to look something up and respond courteously to the OP? PP is not a creep but you are rude. |
This list doesn’t really tell anything about the musical program itself as kids in these have to choose to try out. There are plenty of kids that are musically great but who don’t audition for honors or all state band because they have other activities |
This is awesome, thanks! |
nope |
| WJ is Great for music. 4 FT music faculty with 2 orchestras, 3 bands, and a Jazz ensemble. Great piano and guitar instruction, too! They have an extracurricular pep band and drum line. |
+1 There are a lot of great ensemble players who don't do these auditions. |
Why are you saying nope? I have a private orchestra kid and they did not try out as between music and sports they have little time. This is just a weekend and doesn’t seem worth it. |
