Maryland is a big place. Some parts are drier than others. The one-size-fits-all rule might still be in place, but conditions differ greatly depending on location. In the Bethesda area, we’ve had about .43” of rain in the last 14 days according to my gauge. That’s still below average, but it’s been sufficient to get the leaves and undergrowth dampened to the point where the fire danger is back to normal. Statewide orders ads stupid. They don’t take into account local conditions, but rather pick the worst spot in the entire state and make THAT the basis for the order. That’s a dumb as zero tolerance policies in schools, where kids with Benadryl or Midol are treated with the same punishment as kids with weed or Vicodin. |
| I live in Maryland and I legitimately had no idea there was a total burn ban. I would appreciate a gentle heads up from a friendly neighbor absolutely. |
| OP already answered that she let it go. I would say talking to the neighbors directly depends on whether they are friendly or not. I don’t think people want confrontation and to have a bad neighbor relationship moving forward, which is why a lot of times it suggested you just do an anonymously through the proper authorities. |

I think you should tell them. Honestly, I'd appreciate a heads up if I didn't know about the current situation rather than risk being the person so the other neighbors thinks is an inconsiderate jerk.
Just do it kindly and mention that you assume they hadn't heard |

1. Fire pits are for losers
2. If there is a burn ban and I see you violating it I'm calling the cops all day long and I'm forever convinced you are a moron. |
True. So we'll raise your taxes to add resources so that this assessment can be made on a zip by zip basis. How's that? |
| report asap! |
That’s how taxes already work, idiot
Classic DCUM! |
| Can anyone confirm if solo stove type fire pits are exempt from the burn ban? |
Non American pretending to be here. |
Then you are not normally live and let live |
Does it have an on/off switch? |
This is a good reminder to strike up friendly conversation with neighbors whenever you get a chance, so the very first time you talk to them doesn’t have to be an awkward conversation about possible rule violations. |
Increase taxes it is! You can pay my share too. |
| I would let them know about the burn ban. We didn't know either. |
