University of Mary Washington

One of my HS friends went there( late 8o’s) I thought it was a lovely school.

Another alum from when UMW was MWC. I was in-state but most of my friends were from out of state. Our kids have looked at it and our youngest who is still in high school will likely apply.
One of our friends' (both alums) daughter graduated a few years ago and has an awesome job with a consulting firm. She had a great experience there, met her people, and rarely came home on weekends.

The immediate previous alum poster. The majority female mandate is written into Mary Wash's charter. It was similar ratio when I was there and we never had any trouble dating. I know a ton of people who met their spouses at school and are still married to them decades later.

It's not a party school, but there is plenty to do - kids hang out and have fun like anywhere else, and the campus has plenty of clubs and activities, but you won't find an abundance of wild keggers every weekend like you would at some other schools in VA. This is a good thing for some kids, and "boring" to others.

After reading the above bolded misinformation, this post loses all credibility.

Seems ripe for a discrimination claim/lawsuit.

People think it’s uniquely female because it’s named for a woman. In Va, only VT is equally balanced.

The male-to-female ratio at Virginia Tech is 57% male to 43% female.

Would love people who are posting these stats to post the source and date of these stats.

Very easily found in US news. UMW ratio is 36% male and 63% female. VT ratio is 57% male and 43% female. Scroll down midway and you’ll see “gender distribution” data.

How is that legal at a public university?

The school was founded in 1908. Pull the charters of any school and you'll fund some objectionable content and goals. That doesn't mean they are still following it
