Where to Spend Thanksgiving?

The traffic from LA to San Diego is awful, and factor in a major holiday. The OP's kid could probably get to Denver faster.

Really depends on where the kid is. Plus there are trains and buses.

But yeah there are other options like Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, Ventura, Ojai.

Traffic on 1-10 is brutal. Factor in a few extra hours to get from LA to Palm Springs at Thanksgiving if driving.

Jet lag from LA to the east coast?

DP here. Of course. Lots of people get jet lag flying cross country. Maybe not sophisticated snobs like you, but plenty of normal people do. I felt off for several days after a week in AZ.

You can’t compare yourself to a very young 20 something. They can adapt much easier.

Jet lag experience can vary. (Taylor says jet lag is a choice!) I'm in my 50s, and I can reset after a day for flights to/from east coast/Europe, probably because it's at 5-8 hour shift and you have little choice but to adapt. I find the 2-3 hour difference to US mountain west or west coast brutal anymore because even after several days I don't seem fully reset.

I would just go to LA. Much easier for your kid. They can spend time with you but also do schoolwork if they need to (finals aren't far off). We go to our son in CA every Thanksgiving and it's been great.
