The Farmers Dog

It’s very very good marketing. It’s also heavy with guilt tripping and shaming dog owners.

I’ve worked in the petcare industry for 4 years and almost every single dog that has Farmer’s dog doesn’t really like it. Especially the chicken one that has a lot of greens. The packaging is messy, you have to scrape with a spoon or cut it further open to get everything out, or else you’ll throw away like 3 oz of food stuck to the inside of the plastic. It can be heated up and watered down to the pup’s liking. I have noticed some dogs poop look more watery

Gave my dog massive, MASSIVE diarrhea when we introduced it -- and only did 1/8 of the product to her dry kibble (they suggested either 1/6 or 1/4 to start, I can't remember). It was, quite literally, a shit show in our house.

Back to dry kibble -- vet recommended Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach after this debacle and she's been so much happier.

+1. I get pop-ups for this company all the time. I looked into it for our family's GSD, and it's like they think by having the word "farmer" in the name they can get people to pay 10x what the food is worth. I've seen no actually evidence that dogs who eat this food exclusively are healthier. Seems like something that a dual high income couple with no kids would feed their dog.

I think fresh food is better for dogs or a mix of fresh and kibble but when I looked at it the ingredients were easy enough to buy and make but I do like their DIY supplement. We do mostly homemade with a drop of kibble and dog is very healthy with a good coat/skin. But, that may be genetics too.
