This. Plus teaching children ethics. Why is this hard??
God some of you are major a$$holes.

So if a teammate gets the opportunity to get on a higher level team like a MLSNext, ECNL, or academy team, they need to think about the team first? I don’t expect any player to be loyal to their team in that situation and would not think they were aholes for leaving.

Sounds this hit a nerve for you princess. Are you someone associated with a club losing too many people tired of your club’s/team’s/coach’s bs?

For clubs playing at a high level -

They will be looking to replace the bottom 3-5 players every year. They may not get replacements to show up. But, if they do, they will take a flyer on a bit of an unknown over a player who is bottom quarter of the team.

Of course, top players may move on for better opportunities as well. Often, kids can be very good, but the team already has very good players in positions the kid is best suited for. Move to get playing time. Or, get a written commitment for playing time. Clubs will do that.

Team Loyalty is dependent upon several things: (not in order of importance)

- Team’s playing and competition level
- Player’s playing time and playing position
- Coach’s coaching ability, attitude and demeanor
- Team (or coach’s) tactical/playing style
- Team development
- Team camaraderie

But:
- Coach’s or team’s toxicity trumps all of the above.

They use our children to win tournaments and raise their own profile...to make more money...and get better players...to make more money. Take from them as much as they are taking from you. You are paying for this so make it work for your kid and not the club!

Friday rant over...thanks for listening to my TED talk! Time for a beer.

Loyalty is not a concept ever associated with club soccer. These are businesses and the players are the widgets. Do you feel disloyal when you change batteries on your remote?

This is a club's dream...an obedient customer who cares more about the team/players than the club does.

People who bring ethics into this are just the worst. My kids went from a small, NPL club to ECNL teams because they worked their a$$es off and achieved their goals. They are now playing well and working for the next goal. But there are still some parents from the old club that have called us traitors and post things on social media about them. And you know what the common thread is with those parents? Their kids aren't very good at soccer, and they have no chance of making an ECNL team. Sour grapes. But I bet they are keeping their resume updated and looking for a new job as we speak. Talk about ethics.

YOU ARE LITERALLY PAYING FOR THIS AND BEING USED.

Bingo. These clubs are filled with salesmen, utilizing FOMO and accolades of players as selling points.

That's all you need to know about club soccer...it's a business, some for profit and some not for profit but a business none the less.
