Quick trip with 7 year old within hour or 1.5 hour drive of Arlington

Bay beaches are still nice in fall. Calvert Cliffs may be just out of your radius but you could see what's a little closer. Kent Island area?

There was a farm we went to somewhere in Virginia not far, and it had a big slide and a few rides like this swing thing. They had owls and I think lemurs (not sure about the lemurs that could’ve been somewhere else, memory fading) but it was all set up for the fall. I think it had apples or a corn maze. I just don’t remember the name of it

Watermark Cruises had a nice area to sit while waiting and on board. I’ve done other “kid friendly” scenic boat rides that involved standing on the dock to wait and then on the boat.

Harpers Ferry is great. There's a good hike (paved), a historic area (ice cream!) and a few adventure areas (ropes course, etc). If the weather's nice it's great.

An easy trip that feels like you got away.
