When are your kids actually filling common app and submitting applications?

Shooting to decide on ED/EA and send those in by Oct 20 and then queue up ED2/RD to be ready by Christmas, if needed.

It is my understanding that sending in apps early won’t hurt but won’t help either. A few days before the deadline is fine.

Do the school specific sections pop up automatically on the common app, including essay topics?

Yes. They need to add the colleges to their list in the common app. There will be 3 sections that show up under each school. The "Questions" section will include any school-specific questions and their extra essays.

That we know of submitting their apps there this month.

ED or EA?

there's no EA anymore, unless first gen to college.

EA certainly still exists.

At Wake? No its limited to FG.

Early Action for First-Generation College Students gives first-generation college students an admissions decision by January 15. Unlike Early Decision admissions, the Early Action decision is non-binding. Admitted first-generation students have until May 1 to decide if they will enroll at Wake Forest.

That is super weird.

Daughter has completed the data entry aspect of the application and is working on her essays. She is submitting her first applications to her safety schools in a couple of weeks. For other schools, she is waiting after she gets the results back from the SAT test she is preparing to take. Trying to get 1480 up to the 1500s. Once she has the results back, she will submit her ED application. The remainder will then follow. Will possible apply to 8 to 9 schools.

ALL ED is BINDING. Wake happens to have rolling ED so best to fill is out when they send you the email that their APP is open(which was early July).

Rolling admissions makes sense to file as early as you can.

Mine is trying to get as much done as possible before schools starts.

Ok…and? Still trying to understand the point of the thread if there is one.

I'm not the OP, but I can think of a ton of reasons for the question.

Just curiosity
Getting a feel for how others are managing the timeline given school commitments etc
Getting a sense of whether there is an advantage to getting it done early or waiting- either on the likelihood of admission of overall quality of life in first semester senior year

But in general, the point of a question is interest in the answer.

My dd did her common application and submitted by September 30. She wanted to be done so she could enjoy senior year. Took a lot of pressure off.

DD has already submitted and sent all 10 of her applications. Now for a stress-free senior year!

Did she not need any teacher or counselor recs?

My daughter has finished her common app for all the schools that she is applying to and her counselor reviewed everything today. She is retaking the SAT on 8/24 so she will wait for her scores to actually apply. Probably do another review of everything to make sure there are no mistakes at that time. It’s early but she had quite a few additional supplemental essay questions and she wanted to work on them while she had plenty of free time this summer.

Did she do it all on her own? Now I feel so behind.

Of course, but she has done her part. The recs and transcript will be sent by the school next month.
