Any success stories of anxiety being ADHD and going off SSRI

Anonymous
Many preteen and teen girls that were not diagnosed with ADHD are diagnosed with anxiety. All they care about are grades and can they sit in a seat. Most girls can do that and still have debilitating ADHD and sensory issues or even autism, so they get diagnosed with anxiety. And it’s always Prozac, Lexapro or Zoloft to start and all of them are not a good fit for mid diagnosed girls.

Get a neuropsych eval and in the meantime slowly go off the drug it sounds like is doing more harm than good.

From personal experience, don't do this before any major transitions like changing schools or a divorce. Also, be open to going back on and make sure your child doesn't feel like a failure if it turns out they need the SSRI after all.

And for those who say they aren't good long term, that is a benefit vs. risk question that each of us have to answer for ourselves. When I finally accepted that I was going to be a lifer on my meds, things only got better and better for me in the long run. Great family, great job, and kids who aren't being raised by someone always on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I also know people who have used them as a reset like described above and weaned off and went on to live their best lives! That is awesome too. It's just a very personal decision that is different for everyone.
