I've told the school that I have no access to the internet

Yes, this parent should be ashamed. What a ridiculous post. Provide what your kids need.

They don’t need online “learning” on a snow day.

This is a fake post. Move on.

Elementary schools mostly don’t give homework anymore. When ours still did (with my older kids) I just told them we didn’t do homework. The teachers were fine with it (my kids were not behind) We did still practice reading at home.

You probably don't believe in climate change either. Snow days are becoming a thing of the past. And if you're at APS you can be assured that the first few will actually be days off, not virtual learning days.

Turn on your internet, fool.

This idiot probably complains about the days his school district already has off. They need free babysitting for their kids so they can work from home, a workplace policy afforded to them since March 2000.

This. They cannot require families to have home Internet. Mind, it will not mean kid gets to opt out from screen time during the school day.

I think this thread is just poking at, and maybe unveiling the real problem, which is the equity. Our teachers send forms to print and sign at home all the time. a) I can miss it in my crazy inbox and B) NOT EVERYONE HAS A PRINTER.

It's lazy on the part of schools, and a bit unrealistic to expect families to pick up the slack.

But here's the kicker: I'm privileged, just like OP. So I can make a huge fuss about the violence inherent in the system! (ok not violence. that was monty python).

Poor people will stay quiet and bend their lives around to get wifi in a parking lot and a print out for 15 cents at kinkos.

Think about that.

I can’t even remember the last time I had to print and sign a school form. I can do all of them electronically with a phone or computer. But you are right that no one should assume that everyone has a printer.

So you are a lying liar who lies? And these are the values you impart in your children?

Yeah, I would send CPS to separate your children from you.

Not true. They might send home paperwork to see if you qualify for free internet.

OP, this is so dumb. Internet is a utility and the 20 min a day isn't going to do anything to your child. In fact, if you insist on putting them so far behind their peers in their ability to use the technology, you're doing them more harm than 20 min of online learning.

Gorillas can use the internet. It's not putting them far behind. Besides, we have internet - I just want to discourage snow days going virtual!

Why?!?! Don’t you remember during Covid times when all the parents lost their shit demanding their kids not have education interrupted? Of COURSE your child should be learning in snow days in virtual school.

I think you should use the internet to Google what “equity” actually means.

The school will know soon enough that OP lied to them because kids school aged kids can talk and they put their parents’ lies. But really, who cares. If it disadvantages your kids that’s on you.

What is wrong with you? So now you're wasting public school resources for them to help you connect to a basic service when you DO IN FACT HAVE THE SERVICE? You are wasting our tax dollars being an idiot.

I have never had a teacher email me a form, I get hard copies sent home 100% of the time.

Your crazy inbox is your own issue. Make a new email for only school items if you can't figure out how to manage your personal email inbox.

You also can take the paperwork and put it in the trash.
