Is moving furniture across the country worth it?

Here’s my advice..assuming you are in the DMV moving to the west coast.

1. Measure and only bring what you will want and what fits.
2. Think of the style of your house. Some of the styles popular on the east coast just don’t look right in many of the west coast houses.
3. If you decide to leave stuff, buy new when you get here be mindful of delivery and lead times.
4. For other stuff, measure the garage and closets in your new home. We did not really pay attention to the closets and garage when we bought in CA nor did I realize how many huge closets and storage spaces we had in our MD home. We brought too much and spent a lot of time and energy getting rid of it.

Thank you, PP. This all makes sense.

We are shopping for furniture now, and a lot of furniture stores are finally noting what is available instantly, what will be a wait. But even wooden stuff from Canada and the Carolinas can be a wait... And Europe half a year, it you fall in love with or want a particular piece, fabric etc. Nice to have a bird in hand and then replace as you go.

Thanks, PP. This is why I am trying to figure it out now (even though we are not moving until next summer). We are working with a designer and she will need to know soon what are all the pieces that she will need to find/order.

If you are working with a designer, I will say CA has a LOT of nice furniture stores. Nicer than the DMV.

Also, what does the designer say? Get a CA designer who knows the stores, can get you discounted pieces etc .id prob take sentimental items and buy the rest there.

A PP above reminded me that in our CA home we didn't have an attic or a basement.
