We rented a car - it was fine with driving. |

I honestly think this place is so overrated but I know it's one of these "hip" destinations people want to brag about. Best thing it has going for it is that it's only 5 hours away. The food overall is lousy. Most of the time, the weather is gloomy, dark, damp and depressing. The scenery is lovely but honestly, parts of Canada have better glaciers and rival it. There are also similarities to Nordic countries but Norway and Sweden are better. Icelanders may have the "liberal, open minded" talk down but in reality they can be rude, distant, racist and xenophobic while possessing a serious superiority complex. But hey if you want to scratch it off your list and you are preserving your funds $$$, go for it. |
I had the exact opposite experience with Icelandic people. They were all quite kind. Sorry you didn’t have better weather or enjoy the food. |
What race are you? I’ve heard that Sweden has fewer issues racially but that Norway is one of the worst. |

We found Icelanders extremely friendly- when ski rental was closed, they just gave us skis and told us to bring them back later- no charge.
Food was excellent, lower end restaurants were expensive but higher end were not more than DC. |
