Olympic trials

I went to the Trials many years ago in Indy at the Natatorium. The energy in Lucas Oil Stadium looks incredible!

I met Summer Sanders and her dad. Her dad gave me a rose she got on the podium! So exciting for a little kid.

I was there the first night and watch Grethchen Walsh set a new record. The whole thing was super exciting and the pool is an amazing feat! The stadium was electric.

So enjoying watching the trials, but I want to strangle Rowdy Gaines. His commentary really irks me. Anyone else?

We just got back today and it was an incredible experience. We met so many swimmers and it was so much fun watching all the races.

If Phoebe Bacon makes the team in 200 Back again, there will be 3 Stone Ridge alums on the squad this year! Quite something.

Phoebe is in! Amazing finish.

His schtick wears, but he has been the voice of us swimming for so long that I give him a pass. I wish there was more of michael Phelps in the commentary - I really like his insights, especially about the IM races.

Shaine Casas’s reaction was really endearing and lovely to see. Such a talented swimmer and it’s good to see him celebrate. And Dressel!!! Just a theory, but I don’t think he focused on the 100 free as much as on the 50 free and 100 fly. 100 free was his “weakest” event in Tokyo, if you can call a gold medal and an Olympic record ”weak”. Or maybe it’s better to say that he wasn’t as favored in the 100 free as he was in his other two individual events. Now he can have the fun of the 4x100 relay and concentrate on 50 free and 100 fly. And finally, I hope Alex Walsh gets an IM spot tomorrow.

Is this an NBC bot posting?

Very happy to see Casas make it through. Think this leaves no doubt that Dressel is back!

I think tonight’s 200 IM final is going to be Walsh and Douglass going 1-2, just a question of what order.

I was in Indy this week and it was amazing. I can't really describe the energy. Watching it on TV has more info about the swimmers, but doesn't really convey how electric finals are. Prelims were like most other swim meets except that the swimmers got a moment. My biggest complaint with the venue is that you can bring in an empty water bottle, but there aren't any places of fill them up (we found one warm fountain).

I wish Michael Phelps would start referring to the female swimmers as "girls"

Being at the trials was incredible. I had great seats and these were the largest crowds for swimming trials thus far! Met Cullen Jones, Natalie Hinds and Maritza McClendon. They all took so much time with fans for autographs and pictures!

I wonder why Natalie hinds didn’t swim? I don’t think she retired.

Also, were there j crew ads all over at the stadium? J crew cursed their athletes - Natalie didn’t swim at trials and out of the rest, only drew Kibler made the team!

I assume you meant “stop”. If so, I had the same reaction listening to him. I really respect Michael Phelps, and I don’t think it was intentional, but I didn’t love that he called the men “men” and the women “girls”.
