Dentistry is a great career. Almost all dentists work for another practice at first. Some may start their own and some may not. My ex bf is a dentist. He owns several practices now. But he was an employee for many years before doing that.

A lot of Dentists still work out of their house. It is silly to rent a building on top of a mortgage on a primary home.

Delta dental pays $36 for a dental cleaning code, same as 20 years ago. The person cleaning your teeth has gone from $36 to $70/ hour now so the dentist is eating the extra cost. TRUST ME on this, its our reality.

For those who are wondering, average dentist salary is still at 150k, same as it was 2010. Yes there are some that make more but the AVERAGE is 150K, no way around it.

So your solution to the problem of the high costs of dental care is to freeload off the unpaid labor of women. And you think all dentists are hetero married men with stay at home wives. No one here is interested in your opinions.

+1. Also, my parents and I both had dentists with a practice in a commercial building. The only practitioner I've used with a basement practice was my daughter's first pediatrician. I would not want my own kids having to be that trusting of strangers to operate out of their homes in this crazy world.

I work in finance and make about $1M at 44. I would 100% rather be an orthodontist. I hate my job
