kids home from college - grocery lists and bills, oh my

They're already setup for a life of being overweight and obese. The college metabolism wears off, but addiction to bad food doesn't. Terrible food like that is more addictive than crack cocaine, quite literally.

Almost every single item on that list is a super processed food.

Minus the chicken tenders/taquitos and mac and cheese, I eat every item on that list. If all one eats is frozen chicken tenders yes that’s a problem, but presumably the family
eats decently healthy dinners, they eat fruits and vegetables, etc. Balance and moderation, not deprivation …

Signed, 55 year old who weighs about the same as she did at age 25 (there is some sagging ☺️)

mine is a bit of a health nut as he plays a S1 sport. But i now hav to to buy an insane amount of eggs, chicken, peanut butter, avocados, sweet potatoes, jasmine rice, broccoli, spinach, whole milk plain yogurt, berries, and cheap cuts of beef that he slow cooks so its edible. Back to spending $300/wk on groceries.

He sounds wonderful! What a great kid (and a good way to spend that money).

I feel it too. The amount of tofu being consumed is insane, I’m glad Costco has it! I think my college teens eat a pound a day. Tempeh from Trader Joe’s disappears in minutes. Suddenly there are so many kinds of chili oil something condiments in the fridge haha.oh and popsicles, they eat endless popsicles. Also, oat milk ( for their coffee), noodles of all sorts, sushi nori, spring roll wrappers, cucumbers….life saver - .I got avocado mash in little containers at Costco or Sam’s and they make avo toast when hungry. I found this Korean pear juice beverage and they have gone through cases of it fast. Geez I feel like I’m at the grocery or in the kitchen every minute

As the weeks go on, I'll be asking them to do some of this shopping on their own (I'll still pay), but right now I'm so happy they are here that every time I hear a, "mom, we have no food!" I run back to the store that evening .

Just for fun, if your kids have also returned from college, what are you now stocking up on? When my kids are at college, it's just my husband and me at home so the amount of food is *very* different, some types of food I haven't bought in ages, not to mention how expensive it all is (although their college meal plans even more so). I'm purchasing lots of the following, and have done my first Costco shops in months:

milk and choco milk
chips of all sorts
big tubs or hummus and guacamole
frozen chicken tenders and taquitos
apples and bananas
frozen waffles
individual microwavable mac and cheese, ramen, etc
granola bars
yogurts, yogurts, yogurts
protein powder
giant bags of almonds
oreos (I think my son eats a sleeve of these in one sitting every time he spies them)
ice cream and yasso bars

They also seem to want a lot of specific condiments that I don't recall being as important to them in the past

No milk. They stopped drink milk in elementary school.
