There are two courses: AP Seminar English 10 -- this is approved to be a substitute for English 10 at all schools that want to offer it. But a relatively small number of schools are offering it next year (maybe 10 or so). AP Seminar -- this is not aligned with the English 10 curriculum and is an elective. It does not replace an English class. |
It does not boost the GPA. The alternative is honors English 10, which has the same boost. I think the benefit is that it cohorts your kids with other kids who actually want to do the work. This is key in an "honors for all" model. |
Are they actually different courses? That’s not clear to me. Sounds a bit like College Board just marketing seminar to become the first of the three AP English courses. But I don’t know. https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-seminar/english-10/why-offer |
They are similar style but different content - the English 10 version is based off a district’s English 10 curriculum. If you take the regular version, you won’t get the English 10 credit from it. |
| Oh and I agree this is another money grab from the college board. I think this class, AP precalc, and AP Computer Science principles are all cash grabs. |
Thank you! |
If you're super accelerated you should be in Honors. Why skip ahead if you can't keep up? |
Where is the list of what schools are offering it? 10 is a lot. Aren't there around 25 high schools? |
