Oh wow- thanks for all of the thoughtful answers!
She has good grades and enjoys science and history. She is also dyslexic and has been considering pediatric OT as another option. She is just realizing she enjoys the time she spends with seniors almost as much as the time she spends with the kids. Her volunteer work is an offshoot of her activism for neurodiversity. She has been an invited speaker where she talks about the power of joy in learning (started with class Ted talk speech) And then she was invited to give same talk to senior community and then she just kept visiting to play bingo and chat. She does the same with the kindergarten class that had her come talk to them about being dyslexic and the 5th graders who wanted to learn how to be an advocate. She regularly takes the choir she sings with and theater improv troop to perform in these spaces. She will probably not get any “credit” for these activities because they aren’t with a particular club and she’s not an officer or in any leadership role. But she is happy with what she’s doing. So I am trying to learn about lots of options. The human development undergrad plus more specific grad school sounds like a great option to explore. She’s still figuring herself out. Her daydream the other day was to be an entrepreneur who runs centers where kids can get OG tutoring, do art, theater and singing classes and hang out with/ perform for senior citizens. I’m not sure there’s a business model there, but I love how she’s thinking. |
Wow. She sounds amazing. There are lots of ways you can frame her activities as extracurriculars. All of them count!! Make sure to mention as it will make her app stand out! |
