Georgetown or Northwestern

If GU was on the common app and did ED, it's admission rate would be in the mid single digits like the other top schools. They don't play those games so the applicant pool is thus more self-selecting.

Well not just common app—they’ve always required scores and all of them. Right there knocks out so many.

LOL ! Fairly certain that you've never been to either school.

Northwestern's undergraduate econ major is among the very best in the world.

Does your husband understand that northwestern's Kellogg School of Business is a graduate school--that undergraduate--and it ranks among the top few (sometimes #1) in the US.

People are more than their religious affiliations.

Being Jewish is as much a cultural identity as it is a religion.

McDonough is great, but Northwestern is very strong too.

Northwestern is a powerhouse for consulting (https://poetsandquants.com/2022/02/22/insider-insights-top-target-schools-for-mbb-consulting-firms/), but has been building its strength in finance as well (https://www.northwesternibc.com/placement.html)

In addition to the Business Institutions courses, can pursue undergraduate certifications through Kellogg as well: (https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/programs/certificate.aspx)

Economics is a top 8 program: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-humanities-schools/economics-rankings

Business institutions at northwestern is a joke. Iykyk

Clearly, posted by one without any knowledge or experience.

Business Institutions is a collection of courses taught either by current / former practitioners (e.g., current CIO of Northwestern endowment, or former Credit CIO of Citadel) or Kellogg professors (e.g., marketing, accounting, investment banking): https://businessinstitutions.northwestern.edu/documents/2023-2024-course-offerings.pdf

Not too shabby I'd say. If you want something more quantitative, the Kellogg certificate programs are great options: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/programs/certificate/academics/financial-economics-certificate.aspx

That's a pretty impressive finance placement list

If he wants sports, NU. Unless something has changed we used to get to go to all the games for free. Greek life is a mixed bag, but when I went AEPi used to be quite prominent and had a rep for throwing nice parties (I'm not sure if the kid here is actuallyJeeish or that was raised by other posters). Obviously it's been a while since I went and things could change.

Hmm, I'm Jewish and I'd sooner send my kid to Northwestern. [shrug]

I’m Jewish and NU alum.
You should see our what’s app chat….
No one is happy with the school or this president.

Thanks for the insight.

My kid committed to Northwestern. Then this ridiculous appeasement concession happened.

We are really hoping that the wealthy alumni exert a lot pressure on the school to throw it out.

We spoke to some Jewish students from the school before committing a few weeks back at the start of this mess. At the time, they said they felt safe and supported by the school.and community. Do you have any insight on how things are now for the students?

People are more than their religious affiliations.

Pope Francis came out for an immediate cease fire many months ago…

Pope Francis came out strongly for the release of all the hostages, long before the ceasefire (ceasefires are a standard Catholic position and has zero to do with this specific conflitlct. He would say the same thing if it were California going to was with Kansas.)

Do not try to equivocate a standard, generic Catholic position agains warfare, with any support for Hamas or any rejection of Israel by Pope Francis or the Catholic church.

Keep in mind though, Northwestern just tore down their football stadium and do not expect the new one to be complete for some time.

My kid says they are battling out the location with Evanston. There was something online about using the practice fields or lacrosse fields?? Not sure of the details.

That will definitely affect the fun football culture while the stadium is being built.

The short term plan is to have games at Soldier Field or Wrigley.

Seriously? There are two sides to the conflict whether you like it or not.
