Federal job-references just got checked!

Op here with an update.

They reached out last Thursday because they had some additional follow up questions about my resume. We had a call where they had a lot of probing questions about career decisions I made in the not too distant past. Basically I had left a more prestigious job for what appears to be a big step back in the last 6 months and they seemed very troubled by that and wanted to understand why, and why I was looking again. I addressed it as best I could, but they seemed not thrilled with my answers.

It’s been radio silence since. When do I give up hope?

Which references were you using - prior prestigious job or where you are now?

OP, I had recent job interview follow-ups along similar lines where they were trying to understand the decisions I made.

Ultimately they were satisfied by my answers and I got the offer. It is dependent on the various personalities involved, though. Good luck!

Very weird for a fed job and possibly discriminatory. Asking different questions of different people opens the door to a lot of potential bias influencing the hiring decision. Plus scrutinizing anything other than a standard career would seem to harm women and minorities who often don’t get the opportunity to stick to the standard job path. You sure you want to work there?

Great. Then they will send an email stating that you get the job only if a veteran does not want it. If he’s does not want it, then you’re in….for a life full of misery, pointless meetings with clueless employees that nod a lot, waste months to years on cases, take many notes, and throw together a bullshit report that gets thrown out of court by expensive attorneys that know what they are doing and not some Government employee with a copy of “accounting for Dummies.” Blame people when they Fock up which is frequent and spend all day writing back and forth drafts of your performance evaluations all day putting nasty comments in about events that are made up and never happened.
