And permissive parenting—kids don’t listen to adults anymore. It’s impossible to keep them safe.

That’s what my point was in the last thread that got locked. I’m not surprised by this decision at all. But some troll got the thread locked.

This is the THIRD thread you’ve started about this, yet you’re calling someone else the troll?

I didn’t start the original thread, which would have been #1. I commented in it though. When it got locked, I started a new thread but it strangely got locked immediately. And I’ve started this one so it’s actually only 2.

If you are this concerned, why on earth don’t you just pick your kids up early or keep them home that day? Surely this couldn’t be so very complicated for you?

I am picking up my kids early. I can still be concerned for the wellbeing of others and read the tea leaves that this has the potential to be very costly for fcps at a time when they continually complain they don’t have enough money, and somehow think taxpayers are an endless piggy bank when they make bad decisions. Got it? Or is this too complicated for you to think beyond anything other than yourself?

I’m bummed that I’ll be subbing in a classroom with no windows, so I’m thinking of asking a teacher with windows if I can take the class to that room to at least get a sense of what is happening. Dismissal is at 3:30 so I am thinking around 3:10 or so. There’s a grade level that has specials the last hour, so one of those rooms might work.

We’re at a Title 1 school. Our principal found someone in the community to get a donation of approved glasses so that all staff and students have them. The whole school is going outside. It’s going to be great.

Don’t do this. You will be basically telling the kids to stare outside instead of doing the plans the teacher left and it will look like a cloudy day. Were you here for the last one? It’s not that significant here. I’m having regular class and it’s HS so only affects part of the last class of the day. I’m not expecting many to care.

You were given incorrect or false information. FCPS is absolutely allowing it as long as students are using approved glasses. Principals were given templates of letters to send if their school IS going outside or if they are NOT going outside. Sounds like your school administrators CHOSE not to go outside.

Totally disagree. This one will be better than the one in 2017 because of the angle of the shadow. I would totally bring the class to a room with windows. Who cares about not doing the lesson for 10-15 minutes?

Ill add the room I’m thinking of heading to has a wall of windows on the eastern side of the building. The actual sun can not be seen from that side. If it ends up looking like a cloudy day, so be it, but at least we will get a sense of what it is like.

I’m covering for a special. The class starts at 2:30 and the school dismisses at 3:30. So instead of stopping ~3:20 to clean up I figure we can bump it back about 15 minutes and dismiss from the other room.

I’ve been here since ‘93. My first year teaching.

They need proper eyewear if they are looking outside.

I'm surprised fcps didn't cancel/early release school for the eclipse.

They cancel for a dusting of snow, the potential for re-refreezing melted snow, high winds (a few years ago), bitterly cold temps (a few years ago), religious holidays, etc....but not the eclipse?

My 1 kid in parochial school is getting out 2 hrs early. My other kid in fcps is jealous bc she's not.

What? No. Even from inside if the sun is completely on the other side of the building? You can’t see the sun from that room. It’s not even close.

You don’t know for sure. And kids can get curious and start craning their necks and maybe see the sun. Bad idea. You’re subbing - follow the plans and guidelines that have been set and don’t go rogue on eclipse day.

The entire LB pyramid isn’t allowing kids out after 2:00.

Why is she subbing? Because the teacher is staying home with her kids to view the eclipse. Lol

Of course the sub should take her kids to see outside during the eclipse.
