If you’re not an influencer and post every social outing you go on, why?

Social media is designed to get people addicted. People get dopamine hits when people like their photo or comment on their photo but you know this, right? You’re not really asking a real question, you’re judging in the form of a question.

I got rid of my Instagram about a year ago and haven’t looked back. It was too much of a time suck. And it’s just clearly unhealthy in many ways. But let’s not judge the people who use it.

Yeah, don't judge. I'm not a busy person. I have more free time than I need. So I use some of it to play on social media. That's WITH going for two walks a day, calling a distant relative two or three times a week, volunteering weekly and having a full time job.

They do it for thirst and attention. That's it.

If you are talking like a post or two each day and an occasional spree of posts on a trip or other memorable activity, that’s a person who is a diarist and also possibly someone who enjoys photography.

If you are talking about people who routinely post 20+ stories per day and are compulsive about posting EVERY activity - that’s an unhealthy need for attention and there’s a reason. The person I know who is like this, has ongoing therapy for abandonment and is very concerned about being lonely. She is also fun to be around and getting support for her issues so good for her for that. All of us have problems. Not judging her. But I’ve noticed that connection for sure.

Isn't it nice to share the best parts of your life and have people envy them? I feel like that is also 50%+ of why people post on several topic areas within DCUM.
It might be worse here because people straight up lie since it is anonymous rather than just portraying a rosy version of the truth.

So is coffee and food and alcohol and tv.

But some of us don’t get addicted and don’t use it in an unhealthy way.

We use it and people who can’t do it in a healthy way just can’t believe that other can,

It must be nice to receive all the attention you need in real life.
