Baptizing elementary age child in the Catholic Church

Why anyone who frankly and systematically denied the teachings of the Catholic Faith (even in the case of a PP to the point they sought to have their baptismal record amended) would want to be a Baptismal sponsor or would be selected by practicing Catholics to be one is beyond me.

But one way it might become known would be that others who know the person and their mode of living might bring it up to the priest.

Alternatively, what would pose an issue would be the lack of certification from the person’s home parish that they were a regular, participating, practicing, contributing member. Such certification wouldn’t necessarily mean the person had no occult life of serious sin, but it would reduce the likelihood of that. And again, why would such a person want to be a sponsor in the first place?
