Discover and Capital One Merger

Anonymous
Planet Money (The Indicator by ...) released an episode about this. It seems CapOne is moreso interesting in the payment processing side of Discover.

I went to a branch to open my high schooler a bank account. They told me they only open accounts online now. I went home to open it online and they froze our accounts for fraud because someone was trying to open account. The freaking worst! Hate them with every fiber of my being! Next morning I went to another bank and opened an account. Hate them! Banking is customer service because I’m letting them hold my money.

Which bank did you go with? I have checking with Capital One but really don’t like them. Sandy Spring is okay but not fantastic either.

Looking to open an account for my teen also.

We moved to Chase. I loved Chevy Chase bank but they got bought by Capital One. Burke and Herbert is great if you are in NoVa. Small private banks treat customers very well.

I'm in MoCo and loved Chevy Chase also before they got bought out by Capital One. Not a lot of small private banks around here anymore. Wondering if TD Bank is any better?

Yes big fan of TD Bank. Not that I go into a branch more than once every 3 years, but they always have good service when I do, and most branches are open on weekends for a few hours. And their higher end account with things like ATM fees reimbursements (Beyond Checking) only requires a $2500 balance to stay fee free. Similar Chase or Bank of America accounts usually require $10-15k to be fee free.
