Can I say something to my neighbor about them talking for hours outside or is that ridiculous

Not reasonable. Plant s big bushy evergreen outside your window and add a bird feeder. Real white noise!

I’d probably do something passive aggressive yet effective. In similar situations Ive approach a loud coworker/neighbor with the “I couldn’t help but overhear”, and then comment on something they talked about.

This definitely throws people off, then when they look surprised you just say oh I can hear all of your convos because your bench is under my office window and the walls and windows are paper thin.

He has a loud voice to begin with and once you add in the fact that he's got a cellphone on speaker and is holding it up in front of his face and screaming at it like people do ... well, it's very annoying. It drives me nuts.

But I wouldn't say anything to him over it. That is the cost of living near other people. I just put on my Bose headphones and pipe in white noise from an app on my phone.

If anyone here knows if soundproofing windows actually helps with this kind of thing, please speak up.

I’ve heard the Window Man sells storm windows that are perfect for this.

Talking and laughing in your personal yard is normal behavior for kids, parents and seniors.

Get ear plugs or go back to the office.

Understand this is happening during daylight hours so very normal.

If neighbor was having parties outside after midnight it would be a different story.

If dude is outside, he knows people can hear him and doesn't care. And if you ask how his medical tests went, don't be surprised if he gives you a detailed blow by blow.

Op is supposed to be working. If I was the neighbor I would smile and wave, the carry on.

Op you are ridiculous.

Op you are ridiculous.

What’s ridiculous is putting a bench on the side of your house in a breezeway where people don’t normally congregate and having loud 3 hour conversations daily.

Working from home and complaining about neighbors is like moving to the country and complaining about critters on your land. They got there first. So just STFU.

OP you are an ass!! This person is enjoying life, reaping rewards of a long work life. If on the phone - probably connecting with friends or family not nearby. Why in the world would you do anything to put a cloud on this person just living their life? You have so many easy options (earplugs, noise machines, switching desk location) but go to THEM accommodatting YOU? I get that their joy and freedom makes the contrast w/your own life hard but just stop.

Are you the annoying neighbor?

It's no more ridiculous than a neighbor doing major construction or loud yard work every day. I get why OP is annoyed but the man is just talking on his phone on his property. That's a thing people are allowed to do. And the only reason it even annoys OP is they just happen to WFH in an office overlooking the breezeway. That's not the neighbors problem.

I WFH and mostly work in the living room. But sometimes there is noise from adjoining properties, in which case I go work at a small desk in my closet, especially if I need to take calls. This is just how WFH works.

Soundproofing film + window treatments + white noise machine/fan etc. Or headphones/ear plugs.
