It's been years that I did this with my mom (some rando on the street approached us saying designer names, led us to a back room full of cheap/fake purses which we bought w/cash). Looking back on it, it was a recipe for kidnapping/murder which maybe is what added to the thrill?

you were that foolish?

That’s how they did it. For people not scared of boogeymen around the corner. Some are more open.

I bet you can't name even 1 person who's been robbed buying fake purses in a back room in New York. These people are NOT trying to rob you, that would be bad for business, DUH.

You might want to THINK before you post. They are not being robbed while "buying fake purses". They get robbed when they are idiots and follow the hawker's wife or kid up the stairs or into a back alley in Chinatown.

You sound deranged, and have clearly never even attempted to buy the fake purses in NY. Just go away, we’re reminiscing and enjoying our fun memories. No one got hurt so what’s it to you?!

OMG, thanks for the memories! I did this in the EIGHTIES! Then, I did it again in Shanghai around 2012 only that time I also bought Pokemon cards for my kids LOL

This is so fun in Beijing!! You have to insist on the good stuff and then you go through the unmarked doors to the back rooms where labels don’t fall off the bags lol. You’ll never win in the negotiations bc they are professionals and you are most likely very jet lagged. It’s a great experience. The jewelry and clothes are crap (maybe I didn’t insist on the good stuff) but the high end fake bags are indistinguishable unless professionally appraised
