We never check in bags so I need to not fly Basic and be able to do carry on.

I would die if I could not choose my seats esp on a flight 2+ hours anywhere. I don't care about sitting together as a family and we are small but good F god the seats are SO uncomfortable v the seats that are just a bit wider. We don't do prem econ but not basic econ either.

I think if you aren't used to more and you save a lot, why not. It won't kill you. It would kill me and my family LOL but again - good for you. For me, that's the kind of stuff that I'll spend money on. I won't spend money on a manicure or pedicure but oh yeah, flying in a cramped seat smelling the bathroom for 4 or 5 hours - that's not a good way to start a holiday for me

I'm confused by this -- I wasn't aware that there were other options. As far as I have seen, there is the standard economy seat, sometimes a "premium" economy seat which is slightly wider, and then business and/or first class. I have never looked longingly at the premium economy seats -- they are barely better than standard economy and cost way more, typically. I do spring for the seat selection when I'm travelling with kids, because I don't think anyone would appreciate sitting next to a random unsupervised small child.

I think PP above is confusing “Economy Plus (E+)” with “Premium Economy”. E+ is the same seat and same cabin and same service as ordinary Economy (E-) — except that E+ has more legroom. “Premium Economy” (aka: Premium Plus) is a separate cabin with purplish colored recliner seats (a little bit similar to 1990s Business Class seats), yet more legroom than E+, and upgraded in-flight service. Someone with United Gold status or higher can reserve an E+ seat for self (and a few others if on the same PNR) at no extra cost at time of booking.

E+ seats are on nearly all United flights, while Premium Plus seats only exist on wide-bodied aircraft (e.g. 767,777,787) which have the international configuration. Both domestic configuration 777s and also international configuration 777s exist.

United seats: Basic econ, Econ, Econ Plus, premium, Business, Polaris/First.

Do you not fly much?

I fly Econ Plus when 3+ hrs or so - that's between Econ and Premium as I referenced.

Not everyone flies United Ahole.
