Why do men spit on the street?

Dude, give it up. In my 45 years of living on 3 continents in various urban areas, I have overwhelmingly seen more men do this than women. Some things are just not worth debating about. The same way women don't scratch their labia in public. So I have observed a shit ton of men do this. Why do you do this?

I was walking in NYC behind a very well-dressed man (business suit, etc.) and it was super windy. Well, he spit toward the side of the sidewalk and because it was so windy I got some in the face. It was so disgusting!

I can usually ignore spit on the street. Don't look at it and if you do see it just avoid stepping in it. What I can't stand is going to a public bathroom and seeing blood all over the seat and toilet. That's a lot worse.
