A stoplight is not the same as a stop sign. You said the cyclists “ran the light”. OP said traffic circle with a stop sign. |
Right? PP trying to maintain the moral high ground, somehow, with “we should kill more cyclists” |
If you think this way, you're just as bad as the people who honk. |
| Cars must yield to traffic in the circle, including cyclists. |
This is such a fear of mine when in a cross walk with my kids. You rely on the person stopping and hope no one decides to swerve around them. If someone in front of you is stopped, you should assume they have a good reason. Maybe they’re just an idiot, but it’s better to stop and assess things and not just blindly drive around them. So many shocking idiots out there. |
This happened to a 7th grader at Deal on 16th St back in December. She was crossing in the crosswalk and a car stopped for her so she started crossing and the car in the next lane didn't stop and hit her. Literally a child, in a crosswalk, trying to catch the bus to school. Crazy person not paying attention and trying to save 2 seconds shattered the life of a child. |
Wow PP, the driver behind you sounds like a complete idiot! 😤 |
| Maybe they had a medical or other emergency. |
| Maybe they were honking at the cyclist to watch out and not honking at you? |
| If you are constantly getting honked at you are the problem. That is not normal. |
| Whining about people breaking the law won't stop it. You need to apply consequences, since the law won't. |
| Activate hazard lights when your car is stopped due to unusual reason. People behind you can't see what you see as well. |

The swerving around a stopped car thing happens all the time in Bethesda. As the pedestrian, I don’t cross unless I can see that cars in all lanes have stopped. If that means walking halfway and cautiously looking around the courteously stopped car before proceeding across the next lane, that’s what I do.
My other favorite are the cars who whip around a turn without considering that pedestrians have the right of way to cross. Especially the jerks trying to make a left in front of oncoming traffic. I’ve almost been hit by those folks. I won’t let my kids cross Wisconsin alone because even if they know and follow the rules, drivers don’t. My 11 year old has a hard time understanding that he could be killed following the rules, but it’s true. |
