Bid day at VT

It’s actual called ISP (intentional single preference) meaning she attended more than one pref party but only listed one chapter on her bid card.

If they don’t list her toward the top and then they end up filling their pledge class quota (number allotted to them) before they reach her name, then OP’s daughter will be left without a bid.

If OP’s DD had listed both houses that she attended and both of them filled their pledge class before they reached her name on their lists, then DD would still be e of them (usually it’s the house with the lowest total…but sometimes it’s the house that the individual ranked first in preference order). This is called being a Quota Addition. And the new member is not told if they are a quota addition and most of the chapter will have no idea either.

But since she only listed one house that she was willing to join after prep, then she is taking a risk and is not eligible to be a quota addition.

Yeah and she got her bid — OP

Yay! Glad it worked out for her, OP!

This only tells me how incredibly laid back VT rush must be.
At my SEC school there is no way any PNM’s mom didn’t know every detail.
So the fact that you chose to not inform your own mom would have made you the very odd one.

Agree that it’s weird though ti post on DCUM when there is an entire Greek chat message board for this kind of thing.

1 in 5 students is Greek at VT so this assertion is demonstrably false and makes the poster look like a total idiot.

DP. I have a student at VT - it's less than 20% Greek. Which means most kids do not go Greek (like my own). It's there if you want it, but in no way does Greek life dominate at VT, which is a good thing.

Fine. It’s 19% and not 20%. I rounded up. I can see you’re pedantic.

No one said anything about “dominate.” The assertion was that “no one cares” about it, which simply isn’t true. It’s pretty clear the pp who said it was a total loser in college and has confused her own attitude about it with being commonplace.

PP here. I can see you are overly sensitive about this topic, for some reason. I was merely offering the actual (low) stats for how many kids choose to go Greek at VT, not trying to diminish it. I wasn't the poster you're referring to.

What a stupid thing this all is. All I am reading about on my DD’s school page is how broken hearted so many kids are because they were not selected for anything. What a stupid process. Glad my kid didn’t do this.

My kid is at VT and we were thrilled they decided they weren't interested in rushing. So many other things to be involved in at Tech.
