Just from goeaning DCUM, UChicago seems to love rich, private school zip codes. They aren't just looking for 95%+ stats. They probably aren't even looking for 95%+ plus $$$$$. Their focus is more on $$$$$$. And if families with $$$$$$ just happens to have kids with 95%+ stats, that's a bonus.

You mean 99% stats, I'm sure? 95% would be low for UChicago.

Anyway, they favor top public magnet schools, too, for students they'll actually admit, and recruit heavily for the fully-funded Odyssey Scholars program from rural and low income communities.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

When posters use terms like “seems” and “probably” it shows that they don’t really know whether the basis for their assumptions or the conclusions they draw are correct.

When posters confuse 95% for 99%, they are obviously confused.

You’re duped by marketing. UChicago is just as far left, DEI and woke as the Ivies.

Very true. If UChicago president had defended free speech at the congressional hearing, people would not be able to charge him with double standard.

No. I m a different poster. Have you ever heard that UChicago students shut down a conservative speaker? Some of the Econ professors at UChicago are very conservative.

Odd that UVa ranks so high - 14th overall.

HPSM, Penn, Yale, Notre Dame, UT system, UMich, Northwestern, Columbia, Duke.

UChicago is ~15th largest endowment. If they’re talking about struggles, what does that say for the thousands of institutions not as financially blessed?

+1 Everyone borrows, interest rates will squeeze all universities

My kid literally got something every day since last July and he didn’t apply there. It got so annoying.

Same, my 2 kids so far got more mailers from UChicago than any other school. And not even close. Did not apply, had no interest.

"Conservative" speakers? You mean Establishment-approved warmongering neocons like Liz Cheney & Nimarata Haley? There is nothing Conservative about UChicago.

This forum is hilarious!

Is it about:

The endowment?
Marketing mailers?
Free speech?
DEI?
Conservative vs Liberal attitudes?

Or is it just a catch all for anyone who is feeling irritated at the school?

Shhh! You’re not supposed to point out good things about UVA in this forum. You will soon be accused of boosterism, even though you’re just pointing out a fact.

Again DCUM do not understand statistics. If you look at endowment per student, UChicago is not in the top 30. Neither is UVA.

Lots of U Chicago hate here from people who don’t know the school.
It is one of the top schools for protecting academics and students’ right to free discourse- you are entitled to state your opinion and vigorously defend it with logic and facts, and have it taken apart by someone else using logic and facts. I also love that when there were students who staged a protest/sit in and disrupted the admissions office and harassed other student this year, they were restrained and removed by campus police. So much better than the culture of shaming and harassment at Harvard. Doesn’t matter the topic of the protest- all groups would be treated the same for disrespecting others.

In terms of finances, my kids go there and U Chicago is trying to do so much- grow the CS department aggressively, hire top Econ professors, build out the Institute of Politics, build new dorms, meet full need for a large class of Odyssey, rural and veteran classes, add Div 3 sports… it is impressive, but maybe they need to slow the pace down. Usually these are accomplished via capital campaigns, so I am curious to see if they were funding this out of operating budget partially.
