And his lawyer will be right there to argue he shouldn't be put in jail on the new charges either because he has mental illness and it's not his fault and he's getting his life together.

I mean, no? He's already facing jail time and now additional time. That was what led him to don wings and fly over the judge's bench at her in the video.

I was citing the arguments his lawyer made in court from an article I read yesterday. The lawyer was arguing for probation for his most recent violent attack. The judge started to say he needed a taste of jail which is when he pounced. I can't find the exact article again but here's a good one on his criminal history. https://www.8newsnow.com/investigators/man-on-video-attacking-las-vegas-judge-was-granted-probation-multiple-times-once-by-same-judge/

Omg, the longer clip in that link is something else. The defendant states multiple times that he’s in a better place now and is “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.” His attorney had just said that he thought his client was worth the risk of probation, right before the attack started. The defendant is 30 years old, no high school diploma, mentally ill, has a long criminal history, and bless her heart, his former foster mother is still letting him stay with her and was there to support him. She can be heard begging him to stop. This guy is mentally ill and also needs to be incarcerated. He cannot control himself.

People like this are why we had a three strikes law. This person is never going to be integrated into society. He seemed so calm and lucid one moment, accepting of his fate, and a split second later he attacks. His previous assaults include a copy and domestic violence. If this guy has no impulse control when it comes to attacking the judge who is literally holding his destiny in her hands, there's zero chance for us poor schmos.

One would hope. Too bad for him that this didn't happen in DC, he would already be out with an ankle monitor on low battery.

Prison isn't going to reform this person. What's the point?

Keep him out of society

Agree. That was an impressive launch.
(Female here, just to clarify)

Also female, I wondered if he had played basketball or something.

Prisoners should be handcuffed and shacked for this reason. I've seen security in DC Sup Ct with what look like tasers?

Locking him up so he doesn't attack any more innocent people?

Redden, a Las Vegas resident, was evaluated and found mentally competent to stand trial before pleading guilty in November to a reduced charge of attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm. He had previously served prison time in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction, state records show.

In DC he'd be a lock for elevation to the Sentencing Commission by the Council, why stop at a convicted murderer, amirite?

The incessant anti-carceral arguments are so lame and silly.

Put him in a cage to prevent him from BATTERING OTHER members of the public, Rose. Feel free to go visit him if your heart bleeds.

He certainly proved her correct!!!

Can I also point out that the clerk not only jumped to defend the judge but made sure that the idiot was handled before he turned to check on the judge? The idiot's defense attorney, on the other hand, is just standing there like a moron and didn't even attempt to help.

This doesn’t sound like mental illness to me. He probably has a frontal lobe brain injury or congenital defect due to either prenatal or antenatal abuse. Really sad. The fact that his foster mom lets him stay there suggests he is not a totally terrible person but clearly something is broken and unclear whether it can be fixed.

Really wish our society was more open to widely distributed, long term birth control — I have a strong suspicion that this guy’s parents should not have been having children.

Makes one wonder why a physical barrier--like plexiglass--can't be installed around judges to protect them.
