Boys in the Boat

DC said the book differed in that it happened over three years not one year but that was an artistic choice to cram the story line into one movie.

pP is probably right that it would have been better as a series with more character development - nonetheless it is a very enjoyable movie.

I think the audience approval rating speak for themselves. The critics don’t always get it right .

All this! I'm actually kind of flummoxed by some of the reviews. Some critics found it too old-fashioned ... ummm ... it was 1936. :O

I really enjoyed the movie. I've read about half of the book. It's a slow burn, very well done but DENSE.

I really liked this movie. But the more I think about it, the more I appreciate how hard it is to make an exciting movie about rowing. I'm guessing lots of people feel this way about running movies, too. I love running movies, but I can see how if you don't, Boys in the Boat would be a tough sell.

Haha, I liked Boys in the Boat, but I also liked Jared Leto as Prefontaine. I'm a runner and my son is new to crew.

We loved it too - DS rowed nationally in college - so we were aware of how grueling the training is - but for those who are not, and have never experienced the adrenaline rushes of close crew races, I agree with PP that it is hard to convey …

Agreed with earlier apps that a series with more character development would have helped - and perhaps to avoid the misrepresentations of cramming 3-4 years into 1 year.

Nonetheless, we enjoyed it.

Same on both counts!
