I live in DC but work remotely. The company HQ is in IL.

Start job hunting now. Step 2 is update your resume.

1. email your employer
2. file a claim at https://labor.illinois.gov/unpaidwages.html
3. start looking for other work

You should file a complaint with the wage theft office.

If you aren't getting paid, stop working. Tell your supervisor as much. As others have said, OP needs a new job. Sorry.

Owner should have stepped up and paid/fronted money out of pocket.

Np, wow- this really sucks, and I am so sorry.

This happened to me years ago as a teenager at my first job. I worked at a family-owned sandwich shop. I showed up as usual on Saturday morning, and the doors were padlocked. That's how I found out they went out of business. They owed me two weeks of pay that I (obviously) never received.

Similar thing happened to me as a teen and again in my 20s.

Now I’m a federal employee so I never have to worry about my employer shutting down, not letting me work, and delaying my pay. Oh, wait.
