Let’s chat about bright yellow bedroom paint for kids

It’s a kids room, it won’t affect resale that much so do it if you love it. I think a slightly more subdued yellow (less turmeric and more classic gender neutral yellow that’s got more white in it) is more widely appreciated

I hate yellow, especially in bedrooms.

Still I bought our house the day it came on the market. I thought I could live with a yellow master bedroom for a few months (with other projects in mind). After two days I had to paint it. It was soft, but bright sunshine yellow. It was too stimulating for me.

I love yellow and have painted our bedroom and kids bedrooms yellow. Try BM Yellow Haze. I say go for it!

It’s definitely bad for retail.

But it’s just paint. If you’re willing to paint over it yourself, it’s only $150 or whatever to get it ready for selling.

Sorry, bad for RESALE.

I wouldn’t worry about resale value, we just bought a house with neon orange walls in the kids bedrooms. Easy enough to paint.

It depends on whether you're one of those people who think repainting is quick and easy, or a big pain in the butt and a waste of money and would rather keep one color forever as long as it's in good shape. I am the latter.

My kid picked a very similar color when we bought this house when he was 6. He loved it. I hated it. But I never got to pick my color growing up and I wanted him to feel excited about the new house. He was over it by around age 10 or 11. He's 13 now and I'm starting to finally consider redoing it now that I know he'll be open to something more neutral.

I bought a condo with what I described as a school bus yellow in the kids room. The room was already bright with natural light and it was too much on the eyes. We painted it a pastel yellow that was much more soothing.
And then we bought a house with a yellow living room. My husband wanted to keep his black leather couch and black and white rug so I felt like a I was in a bumblebee when sitting in that room. We painted that room a totally different color (greenish blue) and got rid of the black furniture. The room is now a more calming place to hang out in.
