The Republican/Putin propaganda team is trashing him for the same reason it’s trashing Biden and Newsom: Because they’re strong, decent guys doing a good job under tough circumstances.

Literally the definition of the job to deal with this stuff.

It’s really the federal government’s and the state’s responsibility, but whoever is handling this is doing a great job. The refugee situation might cause problems for New York’s budget, but it’s having no direct, noticeable impact on everyday life for non-immigrants.

The pandemic, the office building crisis and the retail crisis have also had an amazingly small effect. It’s shocking how nice New York is right now, after everything it’s been through.

Then, why did Adams say he wanted her as his second in command? I wasn't asking you to find your pearls, but just presenting some criticism.

Garcia was really my first pick, and it’s possible she would have been better at day-to-day office management stuff. She probably knows a lot more about how to improvise the city.

But Adams seems like a down-to-earth guy who’s getting and following sensible advice. I haven’t heard of him proposing anything odd. He’s just in office at a difficult time.

DH was commenting that he’s seen fewer mentally ill people walking around. We live near some SROs so I’ll have to admit he’s right. We used to have random guys sitting on corners, one guy walking around without a shirt and shoes on in below 50 weather, etc but I haven’t seen as much loitering. Whatever Adams is doing is working. Even Manhattan BP Levine is making proposals about addressing homelessness.
