Extended unexcused absence in APS

In overcrowded schools / districts, students aren’t guaranteed their place back at their neighborhood school.

False. As long as you are an actual resident (not a faker from MD), they have to take the kid back.

OP here. Just to be clear, we already took the trip and are back. I didn’t follow any sort of curriculum or particular reading material (the teachers actually chuckled when I asked whether I could take work so that she wouldn’t fall behind and said my DD would be fine …). I did pick a bunch of chapter books about the country she was in for her to read (which she did), and she took other books she likes (Ramona, James and the Giant Peach) which she also read independently. No real math except what she naturally encountered (making change, figuring out time difference to home, etc). We were short of missing 15 days, so no unenrollment thankfully.

Yesterdays email: Attendance is important! Every day matters! Also, we’re cancelling school on Tuesday, March 5 and have proposed many disjointed days off that you will turn into long weekends next year!

This got me so mad. I hope people are complaining to engage, the SB, superintendent etc. Either tell us that school is important or tell us that you are cancelling (more) classes. It was maddening.

That’s normal. Ignore.
