Where do I take this kid for spring break?

Go to Miami and stay at the loews

Hawks Cay in the Keys might work. They have a lagoon and a nice pirate ship splash zone but no water slides.

Thank you! I am certainly tempted to do Florida for the travel convenience and budget. But will Florida be too cold and/or overrun by college spring breakers?

Coco La Palm in Negril, Jamaica. Not all-inclusive, so it’s reasonably priced, but the beach is beautiful, and the water shallow and super calm, so very safe for little kids. If the older one wants slides there is a Beaches on the same strip where you can buy a day pass.

Since you have a big budget, what about Ritz Carlton Naples? They have a few pools, a decent beach (I don't love Gulf Coast beaches--I'm a South Carolina girl who loves the big expansive beaches) with service right to your cabana, and a kids club. So even if they aren't that adventurous, you could coax the 6-year-old at least to do some arts and crafts and things that keep him occupied.

Grand Cayman Ritz would fit your criteria. There is a small water park, plus white sand, non wavy beaches.

I also think the Naples suggestions are good - Ritz or JW Marco. Naples doesn’t get the college spring break crowd so I would not worry about that. There’s also a zoo in Naples for a non beach day.

Large water slides out of the question. Comes with a 3yo brother who is actually very adventurous but barred due to his age from most activities other than playing in the sand and splashing in the water. Willing to pay $25-30k for a one week getaway, but don’t want to overspend on a fancy resort if we won’t use all the amenities like waterslides etc. Also, DH are not big eaters or drinkers so all-inclusive would probably be wasted on us.

I'm not sure why you expect a 6 y.o do to more than play in the sand and splash in the water at the beach, but you're probably overthinking this. Since your budget is sizeable, I'd recommend the Nickelodeon resorts in DR or Mexico. If you don't want to do that, then Hyatt Ziva is another nice option. I guess I understand the apprehension about all-inclusives, but it really makes things easier when traveling with kids.

Wanted to add that you should probably consider resorts with well-reviewed kids clubs/activities (my recommendations above have both). It'll help with the "non-adventurous" 6 y.o. and the 3 y.o. that can't do much.

Four Seasons Orlando, Ritz Key Biscayne.

With your requirements, I really wouldn't take the hassle of leaving the country. Also college spring break is not the same time as primary school spring break.

If I had $25-30 to drop for a week, I'd probably use a travel agent.

Offhand I was thinking Beaches Turks and Caicos for you.

FL is nice at spring break and I like Hawks Cay but the Keys don't have great beaches - I am not sure how much that matters to you. There's a small lagoon there, but it's not a "nice" beach.

I don't think spring breakers go to Hawks Cay.

I agree.

We took both our kids to San Diego when they were 6 - I went alone with our older daughter and then last year we went with 6 and 10 yr olds. It’s not super warm at spring break, but the were both very happy to play in the pool. The zoo is a huge hit and can take up a few days (and has a splash area). The last trip we also did sea world. We haven’t been to Legoland but my sister raves about it. We stayed at Glorietta Bay Inn both times. It’s not super fancy, but has some toys / sand toys at the front desk; is directly across from the beach, and has a nice breakfast included to start the day. The town (Coronado) is cute with ice cream shops. I also like that it has two room jr suites so the kids could be in a separate room. Or if you want to spend more of your budget my sister stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar and said it was fantastic (though more out of the way).

Pp here - both times we went to San Diego we did zoo in the am and beach / pool in the pm but admittedly it’s not a beach vacation in the same sense as the Caribbean.

Thanks all!! Maybe we will stay domestic. Any suggestions for white sand shallow waves beaches in Florida that are warm enough for spring break and not overrun by college students?
