Where does it say we don’t read the classics?

The people in this thread read a 600 page book in 3-4 days. We probably read more than you.

Romantasy is fun. There’s wrong with it.

Do you also tell people to eat a salad when they’re enjoying some cake?

Taylor Swift fans should listen to classical music instead.
Marvel movie fans should watch Hitchcock.
Banksy fans should be looking at Monet.

It's such a stupid take. Engaging with one thing doesn't mean someone isn't engaging with another. If you only consume art/media that has been blessed by previous generations, you're missing a lot. If you dismiss something just by glancing at it, you aren't very open minded or intellectual.

Also, you sound like a grumpy old fart.

Present tense. No thanks. I tried Fourth Wing and don't see the appeal.

Don’t think I saw that. What was the criticism?

That 75% of recruits are either murdered by other recruits or killed in training accidents and that's not how a war college works. That a good military redirects people from areas they can't be successful at to ones where they will be.

Yarros wrote a military academy where something like 20% of the incoming students die immediately.

Yes! This is what killed me (no pun intended). What a stupid, pointless, unrealistic setting.

Justice for Dylan! That poor guy died on day one.

It's too expensive to just kill students off.

Its a fantasy world where each cadet has to match with a Dragon. The Dragons can kill them on the spot if they find them unworthy. Sure each cadet who "fails" could go to infantry but based on the descpription of infantry, that is not better odds.

Its simple easy reading with enjoyable characters and Dragons. I did like Fourth Wing more than Iron Flame and they need to edit more/take longer. The reason I was excited to read the 2nd book is because of the 1st. Now the quality of book 2 does not mean the same for book 3. 6 more months of editing while she started on book 3 would have been better.

Fantasy worlds still have to make sense.

I preodered the book then read the spoilers. Decided to shelve it and read it right before the next one comes out, lol. I might even wait for the next three. I hate cliffhangers.

Just finished this. I was disappointed, and I'm shocked to hear this is going to be a 5 book series.

The Violet-Xaden relationship scenes are tedious and annoying. There's so little about the second year experience, and the things that are mentioned are dropped in and later forgotten about. The action is moved ahead by Violet coming to startling realizations and dashing about. It felt very rushed and poorly edited.

I will happily put this series on the back burner and look for something else to dig into.

I feel like Yarros didn’t plot this out correctly - she wanted to get them involved in the bigger conflict and had to somehow put first and second year trainees out into the world instead of letting them continue through school.

Agree with the relationship between Violet and Xaden. She has to make this last five books and got them together too fast. She’s going to have to separate them and/or bring other love interests into this or the these fake conflicts will get even more tedious.

Anonymous wrote:Made it to chapter 19. Kind of irritated by the relationship challenges. She had 600 pages to create an interesting conflict between Violet and Xaden and she went with

"You lied!"
"No, I just didn't tell you the full truth."
"That's withholding!"
"If you asked, I would have told you."
"I can't trust you!"

Lather, rinse, repeat.
I’m at the same chapter and agree. Please move on to something else!

I would have moved on as soon as I encountered the name Xaden.

And I like YA.
